OUT for Work
OUT for Work is a nonprofit organization with a mission to educate, prepare, and empower LGBTQ college students for the transition from academia to the workplace. We do this by organizing career conferences, events, and providing tools and resources to college and university students across the country. We also reach out to LGBTQ safe and inclusive companies and organizations and bring them together to help educate and act as resources to prepare students.
Internships are located in the Washington, D.C. office. OUT for Work offers travel cost reimbursements, however this is not a paid internship. Course credit for the internship is offered depending on the policies of the particular institution the student is attending. The status of a particular internship as credit will be determined before an internship is offered.

Immigration Equality
Immigration Equality is seeking a dynamic, committed individual for a fall, spring, and/or summer internship in our new Washington, DC office to work to promote equal immigration rights for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and HIV-positive communities.
The Immigration Equality Public Policy Intern carries out public policy research to help pass the Uniting American Families Act, a bill that would allow gay and lesbian Americans couples to sponsor their foreign-born permanent partners for immigration. The Public Policy Intern researches Congressional comprehensive immigration reform initiatives as well as LGBT initiatives to help develop effective strategies for winning rights for LGBT families. The Public Policy Intern also assists with background research to help develop and implement regulations beneficial to LGBT and HIV-positive immigrants, including in the areas of asylum and immigration detention. The Public Policy Intern writes outreach and educational materials to promote the rights of LGBT and HIV-positive immigrants. The Public Policy Intern may assist with developing grassroots activists in key Congressional districts.
The Public Policy Intern can help implement the strategies based on his or her research by attending lobby meetings on capitol hill, and assisting with briefings of members of Congress and their staff.

Servicemembers Legal Defense Network
- Legal Internship
SLDN, a non-partisan, non-profit, legal services, watchdog and policy organization dedicated to ending discrimination against and harassment of military personnel affected by "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT), seeks legal interns for the 2009-2010 school year.SLDN will select part-time interns for the fall and spring semesters and full-time candidates for the summer, and entertains applications from 1Ls, 2Ls, and 3Ls. The positions are unpaid, though SLDN encourages applicants to secure funded fellowships. Students may also receive credit in exchange for their services when permitted in accordance with law school policies.
Ideal candidates will have strong written and oral communications skills, strong research abilities, and demonstrated academic performance. Ideal candidates will also have military experience and experience in crisis management and client contact.
Interns will counsel clients with attorney supervision and produce 2-3 written work products. Interns will master a substantive area of military law as it applies to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender service members. Interns will obtain significant legal aid experience and may have exposure to some policy advocacy and experience with ongoing litigation.

GLSEN
The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) is the leading national education organization focused on ensuring safe schools for all lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students. Established nationally in 1985, GLSEN envisions a world in which every child learns to respect and accept all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.
GLSEN's Chapter Organizing department works with over 40 chapters in local communities across the country. GLSEN interns will have the opportunity to communicate with new and existing GLSEN chapters, develop local and state campaigns on GLSEN issues and provide technical assistance and organizing resources to chapters. Depending on interns' interests and the organization's needs at the time, particular tasks may include leadership development, media work, fundraising, and special events, such as the Day of Silence.
Intern qualifications include:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with the Internet and Microsoft Word (Excel, Access and PowerPoint are useful but not necessary)
- Background or strong interest in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues, civil rights and/or education issues
- Internships are suitable for undergraduate or graduate students.
Schedule:
- Full-time and part-time internships are available.
- A commitment of 8 weeks is required.
- Internships may take place during the school semester or the summer.
- We will interview and select interns on a rolling basis.
Stipends: Stipends are available for interns.
Location: Our office is based in downtown Washington DC, convenient to the Blue/Orange and Red line Metro trains.

National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce
The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) is a rapidly growing and dynamic non-profit organization working to expand the economic opportunity of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) business community.
